Right now, I’m discovering the joy of working with a personal (confidence) coach and I’m feeling so happy, uplifted and enthused about what lies ahead of me this year. I wanted to share this positive energy with you and see what comes back.
If I wind the clock back…
It’s not that long ago that I felt stuck in a bit of a rut, like I was going nowhere fast, that I wasn’t fulfilling my potential. Organizational change was in the air and I started to feel like just another number, rather than a real talent that was being nurtured for great things.
So I set about reflecting on what I really wanted (out of life). And that wasn’t an easy question to answer… to start with. But then when you find a way to stimulate the thought processes, it’s amazing how readily you can find the answers within you. Or at least, you can start to see them emerge.
Add into the mix the fact I was fast approaching my 40th Birthday and you might be able to relate to the turmoil swirling around in my head. Where’s my career going, what about that family I always wanted? And whatever happened to getting that BMW M5 or the helicopter?
The ultimate gift
After a couple of chats about this with my wonderful Wife, she told me she wanted to pay for me to work with a personal performance coach for my 40th Birthday present. She felt the time was right and I agreed. I can’t adequately express just how grateful I am to her. Not only for the generosity to pay for the coaching itself, but for the fact she selflessly recommended a coach she would have chosen herself to work with. You see, she held this person in high regard after they’d met during my Wife’s own training with the Coaching Academy. When I met my coach in person, we clicked and agreed to work together. And that’s so very important to a successful coaching relationship.
We’re now 3 sessions in and I have to say – I’m loving it.
What’s your experience of coaching? Are you a personal effectiveness coach, a life coach or do you use coaching in your job in some way? How has it affected your life? I do hope it’s as positive as my own experience is turning out to be.
